Message in the Hat

    by Dianne Silvestri

Love pushes the wheelchair

to the gift shop for me

to find a skullcap,

something soft

to cushion the bare shock

and shelter my head at night.

Love tells me I look good,

even half hidden

by the mask,

and says I won’t need

a wig since the hair

will grow back soon enough

but I should try on

the coral checked sunhat

that will be cute for summer.
